As the heading goes, this site is dedicated to Hybrid banknotes only. This is a very specialised area of collections and in general, Hybrid banknotes are usually printed on high denominations or the top end of currency of a country. However despite saying this, there are few exceptions where Hybrid banknotes are printed on an entire series. I believe there are less than 300 pieces of Hybrid banknotes issued so far (including reprints), and apart from one or two pieces, the rest are still obtainable to collectors.

Tajikistan - 500 Somoni Hybrid Dated 2018

Ҷумҳурии Тоҷикистон
(Republic of Tajikistan)

Бонки миллии Тоҷикистон
(National Bank of Tajikistan)
Currency : Somoni (TJS)

This is the latest 500 somoni Hybrid note printed with a new year date 2018. This is the first reprint since the first issue dated 2010. The main design for this note is the same as the 2010 dated note, with portrait of Abuabdullo Rudaki (858-941), the founder of Tajik classic literature as the main feature on the front and on the back is the Palace of Nations in Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan. The Palace of Nations (aka White House built 2008) is the official residence of the President of Tajikistan. Whilst there are no main changes to the main designs, there are few minor alterations to the note issued earlier.

Obverse;
1) The image of the National Bank of Tajikistan (Three Snow-Capped Ridges) on the far right has been replaced by the image of Abuabdullo Rudaki;
2) The 500 value in oval shape (purple colour) design on the right side of Abuabdullo Rudaki has been removed;
3) The shield like image between the Tajikistan emblem and the 500 value has changed from a plain to a yellowish design and the value 500 is printed in green;
Reverse;
4) The Presidential flag and the emblem are shifted further to the left;
5) The flag on top of the Palace of Nations is now printed in colour;
6) The three flying doves are more larger or not so skinny as those printed on the 2010 print; and
7) The see-through image on the hologram has been replaced by a flying dove.

I have posted both the two notes below for comparison purposes.

Whilst more that 96% of the Tajikistan population are Muslim, there are no Farsi or Persian script printed on the note. This note is printed with Tajik texts on the front and English on the back.

Five Hundred Somoni
Dated 2018, Abuabdullo Rudaki (Poet 858-941)

The Tajikistan's currency Somoni was named after Ismail Somoni (849-907), who was the Emir (Ruler) of the Samanid Empire until his death. The Palace of Nations was built in his honour.
