...As the heading goes, this site is dedicated to Hybrid banknotes only. This is a very specialised area of collections and in general, Hybrid banknotes are usually printed on high denominations or the top end of currency of a country. However despite saying this, there are few exceptions where Hybrid banknotes are printed on an entire series. I believe there are less than 300 pieces of Hybrid banknotes issued so far (including reprints), and apart from one or two pieces, the rest are still obtainable to collectors.

...Solomon Islands - $10, $20 ND2021 And $100 ND2023 Hybrid Reprints, s. Dr Luke Forau & Mckinnie P Dentana

Solomon Islands

Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI)
(since 1983)
Currency - Dollar (SBD)

Below are the reprints of the $10, $20 and $100 paper and hybrid notes, first introduced in 2017. There are no changes to the designs, except it has new signatures for the bank's Governor and for the Secretary, Minister of Finance. Those first issued series of 2017 were signed by the Governor, Denton Hehenoro Rarawa, and the Secretary, Minister of Finance, Shadrach Timothy Fanega and later by Harry Degruit Kuma.

Here, I have posted the normal notes as well as the replacement prefix for the same denomination. Traditionally, replacement notes are printed with the prefix of X/1 for Solomon Islands banknotes, unless those printed by Note Printing Australia, which is none.

In my opinion, this series of notes (designs) are printed with very strong colours.

I believe the signature for the Secretary, Minister of Finance printed on this note is Mckinnie P Dentana. I note that other sites have indicated that this is not. I do not have any confirmation to say I am correct, but if you have the correct information, please feel free to share with me. I am also keen to know what the initial 'P' stands for. Please check this out!

These two notes were first introduced in 2013 and 2015 for the $50 and $100 respectively. The remaining notes for the current series released were $5 polymer (nd2019), $10 and $20 (both nd2017). Posted here are the two specimen notes, and both are printed on Hybrid materials. It should be noted that the two notes below (nd2013 new series) are printed with the  signature of the Secretary, Ministry of Finance Shadrach Timothy Fanega, whilst those issued in 2017 have the signature of Harry Degruit Kuma.

...Solomon Islands - 2013 Series of $10, $20 and $100 Hybrid Specimen

 Solomon Islands

Central Bank of Solomon Islands
(since 1983)
Currency - Dollar (SBD)

Below are four specimen notes of the current series first released in 2013. This series started with the $50 issued in 2013 and then followed by the $100 in 2015. Both are Hybrid notes and bear the signatures of Denton Hehenoro Rarawa and Shadrach Timonthy Fanega.

In 2017, the central bank released a new $10 and $20 and in 2018 (or 2019), a reprint of the 2015 $100 (nd2017) Hybrid note. These are the four notes I have posted here. A complete series should be - $5 (polymer), $10, $20, $50 and $100. The $5 is a polymer note and was issued in May 2019. I have this note and will post the note separately.

Solomon Islands - 2017 Issues Reprints (Series 2013)

Added on 01.02.2018 ($10 and $50)

I have added the $10 and $50 (Hybrid) new series with the signatures of Governor Denton Hehenoro Rarawa and the Secretary Minister of Finance Harry Kuma. The $10 is a new issue with new designs as part of the 2013 new series and was issued on 29.11.2017, whilst the $50 Hybrid note is a reprint with current signatures. I am not sure when the $50 was issued as Harry Kuna was appointed to the Secretary Minister of Finance on 06.05.2015. This note could be issued either in 2016 or 2017. The $50 note uploaded here is the replacement prefix of X/1 and I have also uploaded the $10 with A/1 and X/1 replacement note too. I am glad to say that I have all the first and replacement notes for this new 2013 series for all denominations, including the $50 reprints. Solomon Islands last issued a $2 paper banknote in 2011 and was replaced by a coin in 2012.

It is believed that this note was printed/issued in 2017 with prefix commencing A/6. Like the 2013 first print, this is also printed with Hybrid material.

Solomon Islands - 2013 Hybrid Note

Solomon Islands new $50 ND2013 new hybrid note. On 26.09.2013, Solomon Islands announced the release of a new series of banknotes. The $50 is the first denomination released, with the rest of the new banknotes to be issued over the course of the next few years. The imprinter of the new note is De La Rue which incorporates the company famous's Optiks™ super wide security thread with a transparent window. The new note was launched by the Governor Denton Rarawa and was attended by a number of VIPs including the Finance Minister Rick Hou. This is an exciting time for collectors especially those who like Hybrid notes. With this $50 hybrid note released, it is expected that the rest of the series will also be printed by DLR and with that, we would expect the new $100 to be another hybrid note as well. Solomon Islands is the forth nation (after Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Fiji) to have issued banknotes in Paper, Polymer and now Hybrid. And it is interesting to note that all these nations are located in the Oceania/Pacific region too.

One Hundred Dollars (Hybrid)

This is the latest of the Solomon Islands new family of notes. This new $100 note was launched/introduced into circulations on 10.04.2015 in Honiara by the Central Bank Government Denton Rarawa. This is the highest and the second denomination for the new series following the first release of the $50 in September 2013. This new $100 uses strong images and bold colours to reflect the vibrancy of the nation. The main theme of the design is rural lives, depicting particularly the harvesting of coconut as a major source of income in rural areas. Like the current $50 note, this note is also printed with Optiks technology (Hybrid) security, by De La Rue, the traditional printer for Solomon Islands banknotes since 1916. Optiks is a DLR super-wide windowed thread. This highly-secure embedded thread is currently the largest window and widest thread in circulation. When the note is viewed normally the image in the metallic thread is visible, and when the note is held up against the light the full thread can be seen. And also like the 2013 first issue, the first prefix for this new series is "A/1" with replacement notes printed with "X/1". Here I have posted the note with A/1 000088 (lucky double eights). Going forward, we will expect the remaining denominations to be issued later, however I am not sure if this new series will also include the $2 as well. In my opinion, it is unlikely that the remaining of the series will be printed with the Optiks technology (Hybrid) security. Let's hope that I am wrong in this.
